Fire Dampers > Low Leakage Smoke Dampers
Smoke dampers are intended for installation in ducts and air transfer openings that are designed to resist the passage of air and smoke. The dampers are installed to operate automatically, controlled by a smoke detection system and are capable of being positioned from a remote command station. Smoke dampers can be used in HVAC systems where the fans are shut down in the event of a fire, and can also be used in smoke control systems designed to operate during a fire incident.
Carnes smoke dampers are UL and ULC listed, and are available with Class I (ES series) or Class II (ET series) leakage ratings. Class I smoke dampers provide a maximum leakage of 8 cfm per square foot at 4.0 inches static pressure. Class II smoke dampers provide a maximum leakage of 20 cfm per square foot at 4.0 inches static pressure. Smoke dampers are designed to be installed in a vertical or horizontal mounting position in the ductwork or a separate sleeve within 24" of the smoke partition.
Carnes ES and ET series smoke dampers are approved for use in engineered smoke control systems and are controlled via a smoke detection system. Numerous accessories are available with smoke dampers, including transitions, side plates, damper sleeves, remote control boxes and smoke detectors. Electric or pneumatic actuators are available for operating Carnes smoke dampers.
