Type B Curtain Blade Fire Dampers
Carnes Type B curtain fire dampers are UL and ULC listed for installation in walls, floors and partitions with a fire rating of 1-1/2 or 3 hours. The type B fire damper has the blade stack out of the airstream, but the receiving channel is within the airstream, which results in a substantially reduced air pressure drop.
Fire dampers for use in static systems are used in duct systems and penetrations where there is little to no airflow when the damper closes. Carnes Type B static curtain fire dampers may be installed vertically or horizontally in static HVAC systems that automatically shut down in the event of a fire.
Fire dampers for use in dynamic system are required if the HVAC systems will be operating with the fans on during a fire incident. Dynamic system dampers are expected to be able to close against the air velocity and pressure produced by the system fan. Carnes Type B dynamic curtain fire dampers may be installed vertically or horizontally in dynamic HVAC systems that continue to run in the event of a fire.
